Monday September 9thPanama completed today the three day celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the first inland Diocese, Santa Maria la Antigua in Darien, on September 9, 1513. After the image of Santa Maria la Antigua, Patroness of Panama travelled to each Diocese of Panama, she arrived by sea to the capital yesterday and was accompanied by thousands in procession to the Cathedral Plaza where many thousands more were waiting for the annual celebration of the “Cita Eucaristica” in the atrium of the Cathedral. During the Holy Mass celebrated by Monsignor Jose Domingo Ulloa, Archbishop of Panama and concelebrated by the Papal Nuncio and all the Bishops, the Nuncio, Monsignor Andres Carrascosa Coso read a message from His Holiness Pope Francisco, blessing all Panamanians and encouraging them to love the Blessed Mother of God more each day. At the end of the Holy Mass, all Bishops knelt facing the Virgin and Monsignor Ulloa consecrated “Our country Panama border to border, to Our Lord Jesus Christ Redeemer and Savior of humanity with great faith, firm hope and ardent charity through our Patroness Santa Maria la Antigua”.During a visit to Panama in 2011, John Rick Miller and members of the Mission asked the Archbishop to consecrate Panama to which he indicated that the appropriate time would be in September, 2013 . The seed planted at that meeting finally bore fruit!
